Officially this is our very first post for the year 2012. We have been so busy with what God is doing ministry and with the programs we are undertaking that we haven’t had real time to sit and let you in on the experience. from now on we will keep the site updated so you may check it as often as you like. You can also visit our facebook page by opening the following link: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Get-Real-Juvenile-Prisoner-Transformation/363704126990961. Feel free to post comments and words of encouragement on the page so that our team find strength to continue the task ahead of us.

Our programs, both the Oasis-House as well as the counselling of offenders in D-section has been running smoothly since the beginning of the year. We started the year with only two guys at the house but the house is full to its capacity at the moment, with five parolees living there. We are so grateful for their lives and the change that has taken place. We see them grow so strongly that we sometimes forget that they have been in prison. that is the beautiful art of transformation. Think about the movie “Transformers”. One would never think that those giant robots are in fact small little cars, just like any other. We believe the very same for our guys; that they’re all transforming into men who refused to look like their past, ever. We encourage anyone to drop by at the house at anytime for a visit and see for yourself how the guys are doing. However, lately they’ve been so busy with positive things in the communities, churches, recreational activities that they’re hardly at home. Luckily we have a close relationship with the Correctional Department, and they support our work fully.

It would be easy for anyone to discard the work we do as ‘lost causes’, but that is exactly why we do what we do. We want to give young men a chance to look their pasts in the eyes, and decide for themselves what they want to do with their lives. We can only set the table with the delicious food of transformation, growth, hope and a future, but they have to dish up and indulge in the opportunities set before them.

Simphiwe is totally loving, and enjoying each moment of his studies at Boland College Strand; Mario has been out only two months now but he is such a driven force to become better, no one can stop him. Patrick passed his learners licence and can’t wait to go for his driver’s licence soon. Mandla and Micheal are keeping things clean and tidy in and around the house, and its always a pleasure to share conversations with them. Once you’ve spent time with them you realize how different they view the world. They possess zeal for life that a lot of so-called happy-yet depressed people can draw from. I have never heard anyone of them devaluing the other, instead they uplift even us as a ministry team.

Each one of us are living stories. There’s not a person on the planet who does not have a story to tell with their lives, and these young men are in need of mentors to get involve in their lives as mentors, and join their stories with each other.

If at any time you wish to stop by at the house, please feel free to call the house at 0218508392, and visit at 7 Morgan Streeet, Strand.

Keep us in your prayers

Get Real Team
